My Story

The world around us loves to try to reduce us to boxes that make others feel more comfortable. The walls of the boxes inevitably lop off important parts of who we uniquely are. We can be misunderstood, unseen, shamed and marginalized as we are told we are “too” this or “too” that. When we challenge the system and say, “I am not too much; You are too little,” we can experience profound harm.

My work is all about using proven, evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral tools to help people release their lives from those boxes and heal from the damage. I help people recover from trauma, anxiety, grief and painful relationships in an environment of mutuality and respect.

There is a saying passed down from my Indigenous ancestors that observes: "All things affect all things.” When we align our organic lives with the natural world around us instead of trying to bend it to our will, we create a harmony that offers healing to all.

I'm here to empower you with truth, hope and wholeness.

Let's put your innate wisdom together with my clinical skills and help you create a more vibrant, satisfying life.

My Mission

My last name, “Sankofa,” (which I acquired when I married my husband, Amari Sankofa,) comes from a Twi proverb from the Yoruba people in Ghana. Summarized by the single word, Sankofa, the proverb states that it is good to go back to the past to gather what was left behind, bring it to the present, and plant seeds for the future. That’s what I’m offering you: Let’s go back to the past just long enough to gather the wisdom that might have been left behind. Let’s use it for your healing in the present, and make way for a much better tomorrow.

“When we don’t know who we are, we act like someone else.” (Tiffany Sankofa.) Let’s discover you!

Let's collaborate

Finding the right therapist can be a frustrating and painful endeavor. I don't assume that I am the right therapist for everyone who contacts me. My goal is to get you to your goals whether with me, with someone else, or by some other means altogether. If therapy with me is not the best "next step" for you, I'm happy to help you determine what is. Contact me today and let's figure it out.
