About Us

Tiffany Sankofa, MS, LCPC

I created Sankofa Counseling, LLC, as a place for people to safely pursue healing and wholeness. In collaboration with other providers, Sankofa Counseling is designed to provide you with the resources and support you need to take hold of the infinite potential of your unique life. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and have been in clinical practice since 1999. I earned an M.S. in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College in Maryland, (now Loyola University.)

I believe in treating the whole person. We are whole beings; body, mind and soul. When one part suffers, our whole being suffers. Likewise, the strengths that we find in abundance in the body, the mind, or the spirit provide great resources for healing for the other parts. I believe in the importance of cultivating and sustaining hope, looking courageously at truth, and working within a grace context that respects each person’s personal journey. I am not here to heal you; I’m here to help you find the whole person you truly are and clear away the things that keep you from living as that person.

I have experience as a Bereavement Coordinator in a hospice setting, a Pastoral Counselor in a holistic care ministry center, a therapist in private practice, as the director of an adult psychiatric rehabilitation program, (“PRP,”), as an Evaluation Specialist and Therapist for the Thrive Center for ADHD and Comprehensive Care, and as a School-Based Mental Health Therapist through Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, working with children in chronically traumatic, severely impoverished neighborhoods. I have experience with clients from toddlerdom through the elder years, coming from a vast array of different cultures, ethnicities, gender expressions, and life perspectives.

Dr. Dante

Dr. Dante (short for, “Andante,”) has been an integral part of my treatment team since he was a puppy, in 2011. The pandemic was very hard on Dante, as he took his job of holding peace in the room and inviting clients to remember to play very seriously. Suddenly all of the clients were only appearing in the silver box at home. He was not a fan.

He appears to have begrudgingly reconciled to his new role, working hard at keeping me centered in session. He now appears on social media to remind you to play, (with and without his siblings,) in my “Mental Health Minutes,” and occasionally interjects his life lessons into my blogs. He’s too short to be seen on camera, but trust me… he’s still here, serving you (and me,) faithfully as he trains his Big Little Sister, Zen, and Big Little Brother, Stuart, (who are big enough to be seen on camera and often pop into session to say hi.)
